While the latest shiny news story will likely continue to grab the headlines, wise legislators at both the state and federal level will continue to focus on longer term issues, like gun safety.
One of the five components of gun violence, that we've previously identified, are ineffective gun safety laws. In fact, the Violence Policy Center recently released a study confirming that states with higher gun ownership and weak gun safety laws lead the nation in gun deaths.
This stands in stark contrast to the fact that over 90% of Americans support universal background checks for all gun sales, even private sales.
So do you know where your U.S. Congressperson - and your two Senators - stand on background checks?
Thankfully, the talented group at the The Daily Beast have created an interactive chart, detailing the known positions of all 435 members of Congress, including the NRA and Brady ratings for each member.
You can look through details on each member, what general category they fall into, and even generate a report card for your legislators. As an exmple, you can see where Randi's Congressman Ted Deutch, and her Senators, Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio, stand.
Check out the details on where YOUR members of Congress stand on background checks - and if it isn't where you and 90% of Americans are at, you should contact them, today.
If you want background checks? Or an assault weapons ban? Or restrictions on ammunition magazines? Call Congress, today. The switchboard number is:
(202) 224-3121.
Ask for your Senator or Congressperson. If you'd rather send them a tersely worded e-mail? USA.gov has a handy list of the e-mail addresses of every member of Congress.
