In one of the most shocking, hurtful, and disgusting displays of personal disloyalty and professional incompetence we've ever seen in Congress - and that's saying a lot, given how untrustworthy Congress is - 38 Republicans blocked the ratification of the United Nations treaty on the rights of the disabled this week.
Simply put, the treaty - which was modeled after the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act - just states that differently-abled persons should be able to enjoy all the same rights and freedoms as so-called 'normal' people.
Unfortunately, thanks to the insanity of people like former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), the vote fell five short of the 66 vote threshold needed to ratify treaties - even after the ailing former Sen. Bob Dole made a special appearance on the Senate floor, to push for passage of the treaty.
Apparently, Santorum and Lee think that the United Nations is waging some kind of insane war against homeschoolers in the United States. Just watch the VERY junior Senator from Utah make an ass of himself on the Senate floor.
Here's a protip for ya, conservatives: As long as you allow nuts like this to represent you, you can call yourselves Republicans, conservatives, or whatever other crazy label you like.
The people making life harder for all Americans of every ability, around the world, will continue to be YOU.
