On Friday, September 21, after being hounded by voters, the media, and even other politicians, Mitt Romney's campaign released his taxes in the middle of the afternoon.
If you just take a quick glance at the summary of what's in Mitt's 2011 tax returns, you likely won't find anything unusual for someone as rich as Mitt. As the summary notes:
* The Romneys donated $4,020,772 to charity in 2011, amounting to nearly 30% of their income.
* The Romneys claimed a deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions.
* The Romneys’ generous charitable donations in 2011 would have significantly reduced their tax obligation for the year. The Romneys thus limited their deduction of charitable contributions to conform to the Governor’s statement in August, based upon the January estimate of income, that he paid at least 13% in income taxes in each of the last 10 years.
That last part, in bold is key, especially in light of Mitt Romney's comments to ABC News reporter David Muir, during an interview in Israel back in June:
According to Mitt Romney's own standard then, he's not qualified to be the President of the United States!
Just in case you missed that, let's run that by you again. If Mitt Romney had taken ALL of the deductions he was eligible for in 2011, according to David Cay Johnston and Mother Jones magazine, Mitt Romney would have paid FAR less than than 13% tax in 2011.
Do you realize he cheated on his taxes to pay MORE than he had to? Does that happen to normal people - ever? Mitt Romney cheated on his taxes to appear NORMAL! Plus, he might be able to retroactively go back, and readjust his taxes in the future, to get back what he lost on his 2011 taxes!
Mitt, don't lie to us and tell to "trust you" on your taxes. You did that in Massachusetts - and that didn't work out so well. If you want it to look like you have a higher tax rate Mitt, get a real job.
