For a guy who claims to be so proud of his record on abortion, Paul Ryan sure doesn't seem to be standing up for his beliefs much, even as the Republican brand continues to spiral downward. Right now, Ryan looks a lot like his running mate "Multiple Choice Mitt."
Back in January of 2011, Rep. Paul Ryan co-sponsored a bill with Rep. Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin called the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act". If their bill had passed, legal protections for rape victims would only have been extended to those who had been raped if they had experienced "forcible rape" - meaning assault with rape. Victims of statutory rape, martial rape, rape by coercion, or virtually any other kind of rape would no longer have had the same options for help from authorities.
Of course, then Rep. Akin opened his mouth and let the stupid fall out, in an interview with Charles Jaco on August 19:
Since that day, Ryan has desperately tried to remove himself from Akin and all the other Republicans who joined him in trying to redefine of rape into law - including himself. Ryan even tried quoting President Obama while Ryan was backing away from the rape issue, by saying "Rape is Rape."
But you DID split hairs over rape, Mr. Ryan! Why did you waste so many taxpayer dollars by wasting time on the floor of the House of Representatives, in efforts dating back a dozen years, if redefining rape meant nothing to you?
As one of Randi's listeners said recently, "If he's Ryan, he's lyin'."
