In case you missed the most recent events in the killing of Trayvon Martin, there have been several updates surrounding the case and Florida's Stand Your Ground law.
• After first claiming they couldn't afford it, George Zimmerman's family was able to bail him out of jail, in the middle of the night, on April 23rd:
• The man potentially responsible for many of the failures of the Sanford Police Department, Police Chief Bill Lee, attempted to resign his position, effective at midnight, April 24. Lee previously had taken a paid leave of absence from his position.
Surprisingly, the Sanford city commissioners voted 3-2 to reject Lee's resignation - which means the now-former police chief will continue to be on paid suspension, indefinitely, for the near future.
• Finally, on Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' law, Florida's Governor Lord Voldemort Rick Scott, announced his own task force.
Unsurprisingly, Gov. Scott's task force is packed with lawmakers who already support the Stand Your Ground law. In fact, half the lawmakers on Scott's task force are ALEC members, and many of them are the same lawmakers who passed the law in the first place!
