Happy President’s Day! If someone you know is a former President of the United States, do something nice for them today. I think there should be a Vice President’s Day, if for some reason people are unable to observe Presidents Day.

Rick Santorum certainly doesn’t have the Presidents Day spirit! He said President Obama follows “some phony theology. Not a theology based on the Bible, a different theology.” You know, the one with the goat god and the upside-down pentagram. Rick insisted he wasn’t questioning the president’s Christianity, saying “He says he’s a Christian.” Yeah. “Says” in the sense of “claims, purports, or alleges” to be a Christian. What exactly does it take to be a Christian, Rick? Because, if the criteria is following the teachings of Jesus, you don’t really pass the litmus test.

Santorum thinks that prenatal testing shouldn’t be covered by insurance because it leads to abortions if women discover their fetus has a serious medical condition. Rick thinks the less a woman knows, the better off she is. Rick, just because you embrace ignorance doesn’t mean it works for everyone. Even if you accept Rick’s ridiculous assertion that prenatal testing leads some women to decide on an abortion, prenatal testing saves many, many lives. Its purpose is to nip problems in the bud, not nip babies in the bud. Rick, if there was no prenatal testing, then some women would end up having babies they did not want… and many more women would end up losing babies that that they wanted. Brilliant, Rick.

In Virginia, a new law would require women who wanted to terminate their pregnancy to submit to an involuntary trans-vaginal ultrasound. It’s worse than it sounds… and that’s pretty hard to do. The requirement has been accurately likened to state-sponsored rape. But CNN’s Dana Loesch said “they had no problem having something similar to a trans-vaginal procedure when they engaged in the act that resulted in their pregnancy.” If Dana Loesch thinks that an invasive medical procedure is “similar” to consensual sex, she’s not doing it right.
